Dr. Ahmed Osman Shatila obtained his BSc in Biology from the Wayne State University in the United States. He continued his medical education from the medical college of Wayne State University. Dr. Shatila’s conducted a residency in neurology at Wayne State University and continued his fellowship in neurophysiology.
Dr. Shatila’s interest’s include inpatient Neurology, but not limited to Stroke, IV TPA program development and Status Epilepticus. He is also interested in helping facilities develop a Neuro Hospitalist model where the inpatient care can develop independently from the outpatient services. This includes a combination of patients, resident and nursing education, inpatient consulting services and inpatient neurology services. Dr. Shatila is also the head of Multiple Sclerosis clinic at Mafraq Hospital as well.

Dr. Mohsen El Mekresh is a professor of urology and kidney transplantation in the Urology Centre, Mansoura University, Egypt. He was an associate professor of urology at Mainz University, Germany between 1997 and 2003. He moved to Abu Dhabi in 2008 and joined Mafraq tertiary care-JCI accredited- hospital. Dr. El Mekresh established a state-of-the-art referral urology center in Mafraq Hospital. He is an author of numerous peer reviewed publications and is a reviewer and member of many international scientific committees and urologic associations.
Dr Nigel Umar Beejay is a Physician Executive and Consultant Physician, Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist with over 20 years experience of global health care systems. He works at Kings College Abu Dhabi in Abu Dhabi. Previously Dr Beejay has worked in London, Boston, Toronto, Cape Town. Dr Beejay is an accomplished leader and an expert in advanced communication, team building and medical operations. Dr Beejay is an acknowledged expert in Gastroenterology, Health IT, Quality and Patient Safety. Dr Beejay was formerly Chairman of the Health Information Management Committee at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, Abu Dhabi (managed by Cleveland Clinic). He qualified in medicine at Cambridge University and completed postgraduate studies internationally in London and Boston and Toronto. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and Fellow of the American College of Physicians. In addition, Dr Beejay has a Masters degree in Social and Political sciences from Cambridge University, degrees in Biomedical Informatics from Oregon Health Science University and in Medical Hypnosis from University College London. Dr Beejay teaches and lectures internationally on Gastroenterology, Health IT, Quality and Advanced endoscopy.
Professor Goonetilleke obtained his medical degree from St. Thomas’s Hospital Medical School in London. During the course of his formal neurological training and research years he has worked in a number of Neurosciences Centres in the United Kingdom, including those at Charing Cross and Westminster Hospitals, Royal Victoria Infirmary and Newcastle General Hospital, and the Institute of Neurology and National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London. He was a Consultant and Senior Lecturer in Neurology in Newcastle for 11 years, before moving to the United Arab Emirates in 2009. He is the Chief of Neurology and the Chair of Medicine at Mafraq Hospital in Abu Dhabi. He is an Associate Professor for the College of Medicine at the Gulf Medical University. He was selected as the first Chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee for the government health sector for the emirate of Abu Dhabi in 2013, and continues in this role.
Professor Goonetilleke has published numerous peer-reviewed papers, contributed chapters to books in motor neurone disease, neurotoxins and clinical trial methodology, and presented in numerous national and international conferences. He has an interest in physician leadership, and is currently studying for a MSc in Medical Leadership, jointly approved by the Royal College of Physicians and Birkbeck College (University of London). As one of the physician leaders in Abu Dhabi he is currently actively involved in preparation for the opening of Sheikh Shakhbut Medical City in 2017.

Dr. Mohammed Al-Khatib is a Specialist and Consultant in Internal Medicine and Diabetes & Endocrinology at the HealthPlus Diabetes & Endocrinology Center. He is experienced in nutritional issues and in administering special forms of diet and weight-management-programs.
He was the Head Ward-Doctor at the Bad Mergentheim’s Diabetes Center (DZM), Germany and an Assistant Physician at the University Hospital of Wuerzburg for several years, where he built up the Outpatient Clinic for Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders, as well as the Obesity Center of Wuerzburg. He joined Luitpold-Hospital in Bad Kissingen, Germany as a Ward-Doctor and later as a Senior Physician for the Internal Medicine Ward and the ER.
Dr. Al-Khatib also has been involved in the teaching and training of medical personnel and patients on various topics including Metabolism, Diabetes, Anatomy and Physiology. He held lectures at the University of Wuerzburg, initiated workshops for medical students and was a speaker at several meetings and congresses in the field of diabetes, endocrinology and metabolism. He held lessons and lectures for the German Board for Diabetes Educators as part of their training and certification.
He earned his medical degree from the University of Wuerzburg, Germany and went on to specialize in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology, Diabetology & Metabolic Disorders. He also holds a Diploma of Acupuncture and Sciences of Nature Healing.
A German Board holder, his extensive years of experience working in International Hospitals in Germany, enabled him to deal with multicultural patients to ensure his thorough understanding of cultural challenges. He is fluent in English, Arabic and German.
